Calcium is indispensable for the normal growth of cell walls and the root. It improves shelf life and it has a significant role in assuring quality.

Calcium constitutes 10,3 % of nutrient content in the fruit on the 10th day after fertilization, whereas at the time of vintage it is only 3,7 %. 87% of calcium integrates into the fruit in the first 50 days. In case of Jonathan apple longer intake was observed in domestic experiments, but shelf life is determined also by the quantity of calcium absorbed in the first period.

 CALCIUM DEFICIENCY

In case of calcium deficiency the young leaves can be distorted, the growth of the roots is halted, the top end becomes slimy, and it becomes brown, then dies. If the calcium supply of apple trees is deficient, the calcium content of the crop will be insignificant, some tissues collapse and brown spots appear on the fruit. Dynamic shoot growth and dry period increases the danger of staining. This can be reduced by frequent water supply. In mild soils – where the leaching of calcium is higher – the development of deficiency disease can be prevented or terminated by frequent calcium content FitoHorm Turbo Calcium foliar fertilizing.

Besides deficiency, overdosing may pose a danger which can be avoided by the usage of the recommended dosage of FitoHorm Turbo Calcium. Due to the excessive lime content of the soil, the symptoms of „lime chlorosis”, namely iron deficiency appear. The deficiency symptoms of other micro elements can occur, since excessive calcium content equally hinders the intake of Mg, B, Mn, Zn and Cu. MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY

In case of Magnesium deficiency the leaves become brown along the main vein in two stripes, die and fall down. „Brush Branches” can develop, which means that the leaves only remain on the end of the shoot. The crop will become sour and its shelf life will not be acceptable. The overdose of magnesium hinders the intake of manganese and ammonium. BORON DEFICIENCY

Polyboron 140. The typical symptom of boron deficiency is apple rosette virus, when flower formation is hindered and the flowers fall. The distortions appearing on the apple and the brown discolouring of fruit pulp are typical as a storage disease. Recommended product for prevention and healing: Polyboron 140.

COPPER DEFICIENCY

FitoHorm 63 Cu. The indicator plant of copper deficiency is apple. In case of deficiency the young shoots decay, first chlorosis then necrosis appears on the edge of the leaves. Blooming and fruiting fails, the growth of leaves halts, the edge of the leaf twirls and the leaf falls. The shoots become bare. Shoot top necrosis and „witches’ broom phenomenon” develop. IRON DEFICIENCY

In case of iron deficiency iron chlorosis is a typical symptom. Yellow discolouring evolves depending on the degree of the deficiency (actual or relative). In case of severe deficiency the entire plant can turn yellow. The yellow discolouring of the leaves always starts at the youngest ones, on the shoot tops. Recommended product for prevention and healing: FitoHorm 55 Fe.

MANGANESE DEFICIENCY

In case of manganese deficiency the refined interveinal chlorosis is very similar to the symptom of incipient iron deficiency, but manganese deficiency does not start on the youngest leaves. First marbled yellowing appears along the main and side veins. With the intensification of the yellow discolouring a reticulated chlorosis evolves with „green veins”, later yellow-white spots are typical. Zinc DEFICIENCY

The general symptom of zinc deficiency are small leaves and rosette leaf position due to short internodes. The small leaves are entirely yellow, rigid, crooked and damaged. The main and side veins remain green.
